Solar Stocks Stumble: Opportunity Knocks

Financial journals published doom and gloom when solar stocks stumbled yesterday. However, where others see grim times, savvy investors see opportunity. Here’s why.

Stocks on Sale

First, when stocks drop in value, that creates an opportunity for long-term investors to buy at a discount. Billionaire investor Warren Buffett advocates this approach. When stocks drop in price, they’re on sale!

Reaction to Congress

Second, most of the financial papers cite a common cause for yesterday’s drop in solar stocks: the US Congress. Specifically, there is some speculation that Congress may discontinue Solar Investment Tax Credits.

Now, I am not an expert on taxes or law. But from what I know of human nature, the repeal of legislative incentives may be the best thing for the solar industry. When artificial incentives are eliminated, true innovation gets unleashed. The solar zeitgeist is upon us and this industry will grow regardless of legislative machinations.

So, I Celebrate

I celebrate the innovators in the solar industry. I celebrate the investors in the solar industry. We’re at the beginning of a period of great growth!
